Their first album has a clean, but mournful, tone. It rocks pretty well, but it also has
different stuff like the country number "Talkin'" and the all-vocal, really short "One Thought Too
Long".

Their second album has a heavier tone. "In Your Eyes", from this album, is their only song that I've
heard on the radio more than once. It still plays occasionally on CHUM FM.

Their third album has a raw tone. Jack Nicholsen left the band after their Book of Rejection, so it doesn't have the three-part harmony that chatacterised their first two albums. It's still a good album. And when you consider that it was recorded in about a week on a budget of $0, it starts sounding amazing. You can read more about that here. Two versions of HK have been produced. The first was distributed by Dirt
Music. The second is distributed by Dark Light Music. The actual music is the same, it's just that the band name, distributor, and cover art were changed.

The latest album is finally here. At 2 hours, 12 minutes, it's their longest by far. It has 40 songs, 34
of them brand-new. Chocolate Chip Cookies has both studio-produced tracks and live-recorded
tracks. Live recordings were done at the Ultrasound, March 22 and March 23.
There are also three poems by people from the open-stage. And if that's not enough, woven into
the CD is the tale of the Spitkins. The Spitkins are younger, shorter versions of Pat and Laura, who
are trying to get discovered. We meet them just before they get a phone call from Monee
Records...
The spirit of CD has more in common with the Treeo's first, don't cry too hard, than with Book
of Rejection or Hell's Kitchen. However, the bottom feels more substantial to me, and they're
having fun with it.
The songs deal with relationships, the strugles of being a musician, poverty, native issues, the
blurring of morality... You know, that kinda stuff. There are also fun songs like "Warthogs" and
"Rolly Poly" . New to their sound are flute, (check out the "Overture"), brass ("Mole") and
accordion ("Book of Rejection"). All in all, it's a strong album--a must-have for fans, and the
perfect tool to get more fans.
Chocolate Chip Cookies Sample Pack
(Leslie Spit Treeo, Manta/Eastern, 96)
A limited-edition cassette with six songs from the double-CD album.
Other People's Albums
The Treeo has guest appearances on the following albums
Kumbaya
(various artists, WEA, 94)
The Treeo performs "Just Want the Proof" live at the Kumbaya festival of '94.
Poetreason:The Songs of Bob Snider
(various artists, EMI)
The Treeo Perform "Ancient Eyes". The Treeo must absolutely love that song, because the play it
all the time.
In by of
(Bob Wiseman, Bar None, 94)
The Treeo originally appeared on the album In Her Dream. In by of is a
compilation of three albums, including In Her Dream, thus the Treeo is also on In
by of. (It's not just a guess; they're listed as appearing.) Bob and Laura were once
roommates.
Back to the Garden: A Tribute to Joni Mitchell
(various artists, Intrepid Records, 92)
Laura Hubert sings "Songs to Aging Children Come" with Rocket Science and Art Bergman.
Art Bergman
(Art Bergman)
Laura also performs on Art's own album. She sings backup on a song called "Marianne Faithful".
50 Years in Everyone's Face
(Craig Stewart, C.S. Music, 96)
Craig Stewart is a Cameron openstage regular, and this is his cassette of lo-fi
live recordings. Laura sings on "Lead You to Believe" and two versions of
"Stand There". Dermot (who isn't an official member of the Spits)
plays flute and sax, and many others from the Cameron House scene also
contribute. This casette was distributed by its creator on a limited
basis.
I Got Mine
(Bo Basiuk, Campbell Record Co, 97)
Laura sings on the following tracks:Worried Man Blues, Let It Shine On Me/I Saw the Light.
Buddy Bolden's Blues, and Midnight Special. If you're open more traditional forms of music, like Delta Blues,
you'll enjoy this one. Bo's one of the best.
Other Songs
"Sex
Girl Patrol Song"![[MP3: download]](../graphics/disk.gif)
Bruce McCullogh saw the Leslie Spit Treeo perform a few times, and invited Laura to sing something for them. The song appears at the end of the Sex Girl Patrol Skit, when Sex Boy and the Sex Girls and the Caveman are having their orgy.
| "The Sound" Alternate version | The Spits were originally discovered because they performed this version of "The Sound" on the Bruce Macdonald film ROADKILL. Perhaps the most important single song in their career.
| "Hold Strong" Alternate version |

This version of "Hold Strong" was recorded for Book of Rejection, but never used. Thanks to John "Wheels" Hurlbut (who was an assistant engineer) for this version. Wheels was one of the engineers of Chocolate Chip Cookies.

"Unforgiven" was recorded for Book of Rejection, but never used. The Treeo seem to never perform it. Like the alternate "Hold Strong", thanks go to John "Wheels" Hurlbut for providing it.
"Dirt on Me" Alternate version
An alternate version of "Dirt on Me" appears on the Bruce Macdonald film DANCE ME
OUTSIDE. This version is from a demo which was later re-mixed with new vocals for Hell's Kitchen. The only difference I notice between both version is the vocals, which are quite different. The version which appears on the Dance Me Outside soundtrack is probably this version.

This song, sung at the package-burning bonfire, is presently only available here. (The recording was done by CBC's Undercurrents. I turned it into RealAudio. Then they took the original files offline.)
