Bits about the Spits

The Record

October 24, 1994
THE SPITS--Hell's Kitchen--TAG/P.A.M. 666 (Independent--567 Dundas St. W, Toronto, Ont., M5T 3B8). There's enough passion, spirit and good songs to maintain the fan base the one-time Leslie Spit Treeo established with EMI. Joe Hardy (Tom Cochrane, Steve Earle) produced six cuts, including Just Want the Proof and Always Get What I Want, which are both standouts. When the spotlight stays on Laura Hubert and she gets into a raggle-taggle rocker as good as Dirt On Me or Tomson Highway's teary waltz Juke Box Lady the Spits are among the best we've got.***

The Toronto Star

March 9, 1995
The annual Pro-Choice benefit put on by Moxy Fruvous and friends happened at the Horseshoe before a stuffed house. Among the many acts contributing were The Spits, with a no-nonsense killer set. . .

Chart

"[Hell's Kitchen is] 14 impressive tunes that will knock your socks off!"

Performer

"Hell's Kitchen is where Leslie Spit Treeo's really at."

Excite and AOL

"Rolling Stone digs 'em -- and you will, too, once you've downloaded some of these low-fi clips from Toronto's "psycho folk" band. Despite eight-bit mono they sound mighty fine, thanks in part to Laura Hubert's strong vocals. Find out where they're playing and buy those CDs."
