Band History: The short version
After they'd started performing indoors again, they were signed to EMI records. Although they'd been promised that they could grow at their own pace, EMI tried to cash in early when they were more sucessful than EMI expected. The budget for their second album was triple the budget for their first, but with more at stake, EMI wanted too much control. And their manager wasn't sticking up for them. They broke away from EMI and the manager. They planned to move to Vancouver and start over. Then Joe Hardy, the guy who worked on their second album, invited them to come down to Memphis and record some songs with him. For free. They did. Back in Toronto, they finished off their third album, Hell's Kitchen, in the space of five days. Then some fans offered to lend them several thousand dollars to make their next album. Overwhelmed by the generosity, it took them a month to accept the offer. Chocolate Chip Cookies was the result. Throughout all this, Tag, the band dog, has stood by them. He writes forwards for their CDs and is president of their record company. He goes on tours with them, and he's also responsible for the band name. The reason that they rehearsed at the Leslie St. Spit was because they could walk Tag at the same time. Their next project, still very much on the drawing board, is a rock musical. "A good one," Pat explains. But of course. |
