Frequently Asked Questions

Sunset on the Leslie Street Spit
Who is Leslie, and what's so cool about her spit?
There is no Leslie. (Well, there are plenty of Leslies, but...) The group is named after the Leslie Street Spit in Toronto. That's where they used to rehearse, pretend to be rock stars, and walk Tag. I guess, what with HELL'S Kitchen, they have a tendency to name things after places.

There is one picture in the don't cry too hard liner notes that could have been taken on the Spit. It's the picture under the picture labeled "PAT".

The spit is a landfill site with construction debris and purple loostrife everywhere. People go biking there. It's policed by--get this--the Toronto Harbour Commision, or THC.

Alright, so what's Hell's Kitchen?
Laura and Pat outdid themselves here. Not did they name their album for a place, they named it for two places. Hell's Kitchen is the restauraunt that fed Laura, Pat and Tag. That restauraunt is named after a part of New York. Which makes that map on the interior of the album particularly wierd--is it New York, or the Toronto, aka "Muddy York"?

How can I get in touch with them?
Their latest address (it changes with every album) is

Tag Tunes
The Cameron Public House
408 Queen St. West
Toronto, ON, Canada.
M5V 2A7

What do you call their music?
Rolling Stone called it Canadian psycho folk. The Toronto star called it grit-folk. I call it rock. But maybe I'm just being generic.

Why didn't Jack sing on don't cry too hard?
Jack did sing. It was an oversight that he didn't get credit for it.

What movies does the Treeo appear in?
The Treeo is in two films, both directed by Bruce Macdonald. We all know that the Treeo is outstanding in their field, but in ROADKILL, they're out, standing in a field. They perform The Sound. Tag is there, too.

In DANCE ME OUTSIDE, they're a bar band, performing Happy and Dirt on Me. Strangely, they get more screen time in the first movie, even though they play fewer songs. They don't really look like themselves in DANCE ME OUTSIDE, but they're only on for a second. The Sound sounds like a completely different version, Dirt on Me sounds like the CD, except for the vocals, and Happy sounds just like the CD.

Former member Jack has acted in some other movies. Click here for info on Jack.
